Data Assessment and Accountability
The Data, Assessment, and Accountability Committee serves the P-20 Council by exploring current and future promising practices in large-scale student assessment and reporting. After studying the best practices of other states and countries, perusing relevant research, and consulting with experts in the field, the Committee will make recommendations to the Council regarding:
- Principles and processes for improving the student assessment system;
- Principles and processes for improving the reporting of assessment data;
- Promising practices and trends in student assessment and assessment reporting that will improve both teaching and learning.

Report Card Working Group
The P-20 Council's January 2011 recommendations to the General Assembly include making improvements to the Illinois State Report Card. The Data, Assessment, and Accountability Committee has assembled a widely inclusive group of stakeholders to form the Report Card Working Group. A draft of a new school report card will be developed and tested in focus groups throughout the state, with the goal of introducing legislation in the fall of 2011.
Report Card Update
Following several months diligent work by the School Report Card Steering and Advisory Committees, the new Illinois School Report Card was codified by the unanimous passage of HB605 in November 2011, culminating in a clear, concise, and accessible tool which provides a snapshot of key information about schools. The redesign would not have been possible without the invaluable generosity of the Boston Consulting Group which partnered with P-20's Family, Youth, and Community Engagement Committee to lead over 60 focus groups around the state, collecting integral feedback from parents, teachers, administrators, employers, and many more on the types of information which communities identified as "must have's" for the new report card.
The bill has been sent to the Governor for final approval. Below is a sample of the State Report Card as well as a fact sheet about the new document and a legend to explain key features and terms.
